library camping...

Well, sort of. Each Wednesday the girls & I head to the Salt Lake City Public Library in downtown SLC. It is a beautiful structure both inside & out. And they also have an amazing children's literature floor & the best story time that I've ever attended. Each week has a theme complete with songs, movement activities, puppets &, of course, a number of books that tie into the theme.

The other week the theme was camping. Camping is something that Michael & I used to do P.C. (pre-children) but haven't since I was pregnant. I guess we're just chicken but the idea of our children soundly sleeping in a tent seems slightly laughable to me.

We have tossed around the idea of trying it this summer. First we're going to do a trial run of back yard camping. (Or maybe I'll send Michael out back with both girls, stay inside & get a complete night's sleep...) In any case, Cassidy got to practice the most important part of camping the other week: roasting marshmallows. The ingenious librarians made an indoor camp fire & each of the kids got to "roast" a marshmallow over it. She was beyond thrilled. Can't wait to try it for real!

This one is fantastic! We used to walk to our local library for story hour, but it's worth wrangling both girls into the care & the 7 minute drive.

That is our library - it is absolutely stunning both inside & out. And, on top of that, is has really great community programming! We're really lucky to have it.

What a fabulous library! You know, I think having the kids sleep out in the tent with daddy sounds like a perfect idea. I'm thinking about doing the same with the hubby and kids here at my house! lol
Thanks so much for coming on over to my place. Have a fabulous day!

He did end up setting up the tent over the weekend (but after I'd already scheduled/written this post) & Cassidy just loved it. Now, I'm not so sure she understands that it's anything but a "house outside" but it's a start!

I've only been to the library once in all my years living in Utah. Sad.

In that case I'm pretty sure you should start coming to story time. Just bring a kid or seven along with you & voila! Wednesdays at 10!

Wow. What a library.

Man, my town is so cheap. We finished every single book in that library 10 years ago.

I have been to that library... beautiful. I enjoyed the art down on the lower levels.
